Rules

Though long and appearently complicated our rules have only one purpose. That purpose is simply to protect the intrest of everyone involved with the Project to the extent possible. Please read up.

CONTRACT:

To win any Phase of the Short Project you must agree to and return a signed copy of the production contract. Be sure to read it, but it basically states that you retain the rights to your contributions for use in self-promotion (reels, personal works, etc.) and that the production has the rights to use your entry in the final Short Project film and all promotional materials associated with it. Prizes will not be awarded until signed contracts are received. To be clear, THIS IS NOT A CONTEST ALONE! This is a working production and winning entries will be placed directly into the final short film.

Failure to return a signed production contract in a timely manner will result in forfeit of any prizes and inclusion in the production.

(We are finishing up the contract now and will make it available for review on this site as soon as we can.)

NATIONALITY AND AGE

Citizens of any country are allowed to enter the Short Project so long as local law allows it. Sponsors, however, are not obligated to pay shipping on physical prizes to anywhere outside the USA. Cash prizes will be awarded in US dollars and paid by check.

There is no age limit on entry to the Short Project except as possibly mandated by local law. Entrants are responsible for making themselves aware of local laws and following them.

OWNERSHIP

Entrants must enter their own work. Any pre-existing materials must be legally attained, fully owned and royalty free. For example using commercially available textures, as part of an entry into the texturing Phase is allowable only so long as you have purchased said texture. Be aware, clauses in the production contract explicitly pin accountability in this regard to the entrant.

CHANGING THE RULES

The production retains the right to alter the rules, deadlines and anything else that may need changing to make sure that the timeliness and quality of the production are acceptable. Where ever possible warning will be given regarding any rule changes in advance. Rules will only be changed when necessary to assure the viability of the production or to meet any legal requirements.

PRIZES

The sponsors provide prizes directly. The cash prizes from AOS Productions ($2000 in total) are already in a distinct account created for this project and are the only prizes guaranteed by the production. The production (specifically including Greg Sullivan and AOS Productions) is not responsible for providing any other prizes to winners should the sponsors fail to do so. We will lean hard on any flaky sponsors but in the end they have to deliver.

Should any one person's total cash winnings exceed $600 (US) they will need to provide tax information necessary for the issuing of a 1099.

Winners of each Phase will be awarded a credit appropriate to their contribution and listed in the end crawl in an order decided on by the director.

Prize lists and distributions will be entirely transparent. All prizes will be listed on ShortProject.com and once awarded the prizes will be listed with who received them. This is to assure that there are no shenanigans in regards to prizes to distract from the production.

WINNING

The production does not guarantee that each Phase will have a winner. The Short Project is an experiment in production, but is a production nonetheless. Should no entry rise to the quality desired by the production no winner will be chosen and the responsibilities of that Phase will be hired out as needed. Hopefully this won't be necessary but those who do win Phases deserve to know that their work will be used in the best possible finished product.

Entering and winning multiple Phases is allowed, but you cannot win more than one Phase with one entry. For example if an entrant enters a modeled and textured 3d character into the Character Design Phase and wins that Phase they are in no way guaranteed to win the modeling or texturing Phases and must enter them separately. In this example, if another entrant enters a better-modeled version of the Character Design Phase winners design, they will win the Modeling Phase.

The director will pick the winners of the Phases and all decisions are final. The director may offer input and guidance during the creation of an entry but that should not be construed as a promise that an entry will be chosen.

Winning entries will be used in the final short, however the production reserves the right to tweak or adjust entries as needed. Additionally the production reserves the right to use assets in the final production not provided by entrants.

TEAMS

Team entries are allowed. Should a team win any Phase every member of that team will be given full and appropriate credit in the short and will be given a bio on the ShortProject.com site. However actual prizes for a given team will only be sent to one individual of the teams choosing who must then divvy out the prizes how they see fit. Each member of a winning team will need to submit a production contract.

ASSETS

While participating in the Short Project you will be provided with certain assets that are the property of the production. You are entitled to the use of these assets, including but not limited to the script, models, storyboards, textures and music, only in context of the Short Project and are in no other way allowed to make use of them.

PROFIT

Should the finished short film ever recoup its production costs and somehow make a profit, five (5) percent of all profits will be paid to the winner of each phase.

USAGE

All entrants should understand that their work might appear in one form or another, without compensation, in any eventual 'making of' documentary about the Short Project.
